Man City avoid FA Cup scare as Foster's Burnley crash out

Manchester City 3-1 Plymouth Argyle

Manchester City progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday evening.

City provided telling changes such as Nathan Ake for Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva for Nico Gonzalez and removed Savinho for Kevin De Bruyne, with Erling Haaland on the bench.

Ukrainian Maksym Talovierov stunned the masses inside the venue with a finely taken header from a well-worked corner-kick.

The host were level seconds to halftime through a well-taken glancing header by youngster Nico O'Reilly with the assist coming from De Bruyne.

O'Reilly continued to be a problem for the Championship visitors and snatched a brace when he towered on the end of Phil Foden's corner at the far post to head in for his brace.

Belgian legend De Bruyne made it three in added time after latching onto an assist from Haaland, as City marched into the quarter-finals.

Bournemouth 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers (5-4 on penalties)

Bournemouth needed the long route of penalties to see off Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-4 after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Noticeable inclusions for the Cherries saw Evanilson, Marcus Tavernier and Alex Scott come in from their last encounter.

Evanilson broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when he tucked in a rebound from Sam Johnstone who had parried Nelson Semenyo's shot back into play.

Wolves hit back albeit in the second period and in fine style too as a powerful 35-yard strike from Matheus Nunes gave Kepa Arrizabalaga no chance whatsoever.

There was no winner in extra-time, forcing a penalty shoot-out that the Cherries won with Luis Sinisterra netting the final strike as Wolves had missed twice.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Milwall

Crystal Palace overcame a determined Milwall to register a 3-1 victory and advanced to the quarter-finals at Selhurst Park.

Key inclusions for the Eagles saw Ben Chilwell filled in for Tyrick Mitchell and Jefferson Lerma preferred ahead of Adam Wharton.

Oliver Glasner's men were on the back-foot when a sort of rush-of-the-blood to the head from goalkeeper Liam Roberts on Jean-Philippe Mateta saw him given his marching orders.

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga steered the host ahead on the half-hour mark after guiding a cross to the box into his own net.

Glasner's charges were two to the good a little to the break when Daniel Munoz nudged a clever assist from the area in an unguarded net.

The lower tier outfit got one back though as Wes Harding's deflected shot from around the six-yard area came off Chilwell and nestled the net.

Former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah put the game to bed with a powerful header over Lukas Jensen after rising onto the end of a free-kick.

Preston 3-0 Burnley

Burnley's participation in this season's tournament ended following a 3-0 drubbing by fellow Championship outfit Preston North End.

Irish man Robbie Brady gave the host the ascendancy around the half-hour mark through a remarkable top-corner effort following a free-kick.

Forward Milutin Osmajic made it two on the brink of the interval when he made a perfectly timed run to the box and executed a through pass with relative ease.

The victory was sealed well within the closing quarter after Will Keane met a delivery across the face of the box and applied a one-touch finish.
