Match-winning Zungu praised: We're going to need him

AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has issued his assessment of new signing Bongani Zungu, who delivered a performance that was considered worthy of the Man of the Match award as the side condemned Magesi FC to defeat.

The Durban-based side returned to winning form with a vital 1-0 win over their Limpopo counterparts on Saturday.

The day marked a first full appearance for Zungu - one that had been highly anticipated since his arrival in December, and having only appeared as a substitute earlier in January.

The experienced midfielder marked his full debut in style, scoring what would go on to be the winning goal.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Zwane admitted that Zungu is yet to reach peak level but added that the former Mamelodi Sundowns man has brought a wealth of experience.

"Look, there's no doubt Bongani is a quality player. He has the experience and has been in the game, playing at the highest level," said Zwane.

"So, it was a case of us building him up. We know we are going to need him as time goes on. Unfortunately, we are finding it difficult to get friendly matches where we can build him up.

"Not only him but Sandile Mthethwa as well, because we have our return-to-play protocol.

"We are now forced to build him up with official games because there are only a few games and teams that are available to play against us.

"There are other things that are making our lives difficult, such as the weather, where you find the pitch waterlogged," he explained.

With that result, AmaZulu now occupy ninth place on the log with five wins from 13 matches.

Next up is a Stellenbosch FC side high on confidence after their CAF Confederation Cup exploits, next week Tuesday, 21 January.
