Absorbing development at Sundowns!

Mamelodi Sundowns have left only two players without minutes from the star-studded squad as they negotiate another demanding season.

Of those that have previously earned minutes at Sundowns only Reyaad Pieterse and Lesiba Nku are yet to play in the 14 games played by the club to date.

So thought provoking has been Mngqithi's approach with Ronwen Williams, Denis Onyango, and Jody February having already kept goals.

Thapelo Morena, Malibongwe Khoza, Mosa Lebusa, Divine Lunga, Terrence Mashego, Rushin de Reuck, Asekho Tiwani, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Kegan Johannes, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Mothobi Mvala, and Aubrey Modiba have had minutes at the back.

In midfield Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas, Siphelele Mkhulise, Lebohang Maboe, Neo Maema, Kutlwano Letlhaku, Marcelo Allende, Erwin Saavedra, Thapelo Maseko, Thembinsoi Lorch, Rivaldo Coetzee, Siyabonga Mabena, Tashreeq Matthews, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Themba Zwane have all played.

Then upfront Peter Shalulile, Arthur Sales, Iqraam Rayners, and Lucas Ribeiro Costa have all been used.

This brings to 35 the number of players that have already had minutes in 14 games this season.

Mngqithi has adopted an approach of using all substitutes allowed per match in all but one of the 14 matches to date.

It was only in the MTN8 semi-final first leg that Mngqithi only used three instead of all five substitutes permitted.

With the rest of the games, he has used the maximum number with all five thrown in for the last 12 games in a row regardless of the match situation and the end result.

The Brazilians have won 10 and lost twice in those dozen matches in which all five substitutes have been used.

In the season opener against Polokwane City in the MTN8, six players came on from the bench as the game went into extra-time.

Last season, 42 players were used under Rulani Mokwena's reign with Sanele Tshabalala the only keeper who didn't play.
