Secret Footballer: Don't blame Swallows management

In this edition of Secret Footballer, a former Moroka Swallows midfielder says the management should not be blamed for the situation at the club.

The Dube Birds' Premier Soccer League status has been sold to Marumo Gallants FC owner Abram Sello.

The PSL have already approved the sale, which will now see Gallants play their home games in Bloemfontein.

"Sometimes people just talk for the sake of talking, not understanding the difficulties of running a professional soccer club," The Secret Footballer tells KickOff.

"People are busy saying whatever about the Swallows management, but these people do they even know how to run a team?

"Do they know even know what are the expenses of running the club and where do they come from?

"People comment in the social media groups for the sake of being relevant, without going in-depth of what are the costs.

"The strapping for training sessions and match days alone is R15 000 a month.

"We haven't included the diesel and petrol to collect players to and from training, and the ice for matches and training is R6 000. We are talking about R21,000. How much is that?

"And we haven't mentioned the training kit and playing kit laundry. Already we are looking at around R40 000.

"We have not mentioned the salaries you have to pay the players, the coaches, and the stuff. How much is it to book a stadium for your home games?

"Category A, category B, and category C matches are different. How much is the security? And don't forget there's also the issue of camping.

"There's also a breakfast and pre-match meals, during my playing days a single trip to Cape Town costs about R150 000 and nowadays is how much?

"So people without finding clarity just go and lash out. What I have come to realize as I grow up is the things that we love are the things that hurt us.

"Anything that you love comes at a price. It's the same thing with a woman you love, as a man you need to make sure you look after her, otherwise those with big pockets will steal her from you, without you doing anything wrong.

"I don't think there's club management that doesn't want to sit down and listen to their supporters, but how you do things as a supporter is what forces club bosses to sell."
