Nigeria coach not happy with Bafana result

Nigeria head coach Finidi George was not happy with the side only picking up a point against Bafana Bafana on Friday evening.

The Super Eagles' disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign continued after battling back to draw 1-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Nigeria were unable to call upon Victor Osimhen due to injury, as the team registered a third straight draw in Group C.

"We started sloppily in the first half, we took over the game immediately, we scored in the second half," Finidi told reporters after the game.

"We missed chances, overall it was not a bad second half for us.

"The players reacted well in the second half, but it was not the best result we wanted, we have to get our heads up and work for the next game (Benin Republic).

"I am not happy about the point."

George also explained why Victor Boniface did not feature in the entire game after the Bayer Leverkusen star impressed abroad this season.

"Allow us to do our jobs," he added.

"We wanted to introduce Boniface and Moffi, but Semi had a knock and we had to take him off and introduce Moffi and Onyedika.

"The fans and media would shout for different players, if they don't perform well, the shout will be, take him off. Allow us to do our jobs."
