Chiefs defender opens up on injury nightmare

Towering defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has opened up about the frustration of being sidelined by injury for almost six months, as Kaizer Chiefs prepare to take Cape Town Spurs in the last game of the season.

Amakhosi will be aiming to consolidate a spot in the Top Eight when they meet relegated Spurs at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

For that encounter, they will be relying on players like Ditlhokwe to keep the door shut at the back.

The 26-year-old has only recently returned from an injury sustained on national duty, which kept him out of action since November 2023.

Speaking to the official club's website, the Botswana national team captain admitted that it's been a long road to recovery.

"I was out for almost six months, but that's football, you know. Injuries are part of the game," Ditlhokwe said.

"Being unable to play has been difficult, but now I am grateful to have recovered fully."

Chiefs find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they sit eighth on the DStv Premiership log table in a season that promised much but delivered very little.

"As we come to the end of the season, in my opinion, it hasn't gone as well as we had hoped. But with each and every challenge that one faces, there are always lessons to be learnt and experience to be gained. So, it is important to focus on the positives and work on carrying them forward."

"This last game is still very important and we are preparing very seriously in order to solidify our spot in the Top 8. They may already be relegated, but that can make them dangerous because they have nothing to lose, and we have a lot to lose. Therefore, we are preparing to be at our best."

"There is a chance of the other teams on the same points overtaking us, which is why we are focused first and foremost on winning against Spurs, and hopefully scoring a few goals."

The match is scheduled to get underway at 15:00.
