Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned as the first ever African Football League on Sunday, beating Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca 2-0 in the second leg of the final at Loftus Versfeld.
Masandawana clinched the final with a 3-2 aggregate, securing a hefty R75 million pay-day from the month-long eight-team knockout tournament.
Downs trailed 2-1 from last weekend's first leg in Casablanca, and evened the aggregate score in stoppage time at the end of the first half through striker Peter Shalulile, with Aubrey Modiba securing the winner in style early in the second half.

Wydad Casablanca head coach Adil Ramzi has explained what he believes led to his side's defeat to Sundowns in the African Football League final.
Despite heading into the second leg of the final with a one-goal lead, the Moroccan outfit were kept scoreless, losing 2-0 and the opportunity to lift the first ever AFL trophy.
Ramzi identified his own men to be the problem on the day, instead of the referee. He claims they were absent and less energetic than Rulani Mokwena's men.
Ramzi also felt that his team weren't at their best mental level and that the penalty they weren't awarded was not the reason for their defeat.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "'This is why we lost to Downs in AFL final' - Wydad boss" story:
"You're not a bad coach, you spoke well. However, I have one thing against your team; Over-watering the pitch in your home games is a distasteful tactic, that is anti-football. Same as those lasers used by your fans on opposition teams.
"It's not fair play and works against the aim to improve football in Africa. The fans want to blind those players so that they don't perform well. Now that's barbaric and disgraceful to our continent," says SkyKBY.
"You're a great coach," says Saavedra.
"You are such a great coach and Rulani will surely cherish the opportunity of coming up against you in the CAFCL. Rulani loves these type of games," says Minwana Phezulu.
"Danko coach. Sundowns is far ahead of most teams in South Africa. But let me whisper to ears here at home, we have chronic denialists (Chiefs Pirates) who still want to compare themselves to Sundowns," says His Majesty Yellow PSL Pitbull.
"Because they still manage to beat you in knockout games," replies Clever boys.
"Fair enough coach," says INBOX king of Afrika.
Congratulations Masandawana!! Now you are really entitled to your usual BIG mouth!! Very good performance by the boys. I am not a fan of time wasting antics though, it tarnishes the image of African football.
"I wish all the teams could play the game fair till the end. But I guess that is too much to ask or expect. Well done indeed, the bar has been set very high now," says khothakhosi.
"I remember Wydad taking more than a minute for a throw in during last season's CAFCL semi's at the very same venue. So it looks like the boys just gave them a taste of their own medicine.
"Time wasting is part of the game, every team does that," says Skyvodka.
"Well done Ka bo Yellow! Very proud of you. Players, coaches, board, management, supporters all behind the team," says Zebra to hell.
"Rulani is a master. His tactics are too much for these coaches. Well done Rulani, I knew you were good but this time, you have earned my true respect," says Minwana Phezulu.
"How he deployed Modiba, Mokoena and Boutouil was a master stroke. Their movement and positioning was a headache to both Al Ahly and Wydad. That little Napoleon Allende is central processing unit (CPU) of Sundowns," replies His Majesty Yellow PSL Pitbull.
"I'm a Khosi fan but I must say congratulations Downs, you deserve it," says jtnnene.
"Yah true that mate, congratulations to Masandawana, they have built a big project which is bearing fruits now. Hats off to them," replies Knox Khosified.
"Congratulations to the yellow family. We are Mamelodi Sundowns and Mamelodi Sundowns is us," says zwelid.nkosi.
"Well done Sundowns family. Keep it up," says mugwili.
"Vintage performance from Masandawana. Africa domination on its way. Soon Mzansi will be the pride of African Soccer. With Sundowns this is very possible," says makausemakause53.
"Congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns. By far the third biggest team in SA and definitely one of the biggest teams in Africa and the BEST team right now," says StheLucipher.
"What do you mean? We are number 1 in Africa and number 100 in the world. we don't have competition in Mzansi," replies Kick boboza.
"Sundowns doesn't have a competition in Mzansi, wake up," replies Shikabala.
"Say it loud! Downs is unmatched. Clinging onto history won't help," says Abuti.
"Congratulations Mamelodi Sundowns. I remember when this team was still a small outfit from Pretoria, barely hanging by their nails to remain in the Premier League, during the likes of Andries 'Panyaza', Chitja, Joseph Ace Phatedi, and the few Sundowns fans who showed up beating drums, the Zola Mahobe era that saw the team become the giant that kept growing, determined to end Amakhosi's domination, and finally the Patrice Motsepe era and the dawn of a new giant in African Football and the pride of a nation," says The Ghost.
"Mabena boy u have just got yourself an AFL medal tomorrow at school you'll be the boss!" says zambroty.
"Broos must just swallow the pride and build the nation team around sundowns players even though they have +-5 foreign players on the pitch," says Fair Comment.
