Chiefs make big call on two loan stars

Kaizer Chiefs have made a decision on the futures of academy graduates Darrel Matsheke and Lebohang Lesako, KickOff understands.

The pair had spent the season on loan with Swallows (now Moroka Swallows) where they struggled to impress.

Lesako made just two appearances last season, coming on as a late substitute against Maritzburg United and TS Galaxy in August and  October respectively. The 23-year-old did not make the match-day squad for the rest of the season.

Matsheke fared slightly better, making 19 appearances for the Dube Birds but played the full 90 minutes on just five occasions.

KickOff now has it on good authority that the pair have been released by Amakhosi while Swallows have also opted against retaining the players on a permanent basis.

"It was a difficult season for them both and it seems the club (Chiefs) has decided against keeping them. They both could still revive their careers elsewhere," an insider told KickOff.

The pair are believed to be poised for a return to the Motsepe Foundation Championship where they played in the 2021/22 campaign, with Lesako linked with a move to Casric Stars.
