Tau's Al Ahly gets first CAF group stage win

Al Ahly picked up their first win in Group B of the CAF Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Coton Sport on Saturday evening.

South African Percy Tau earned another start after an impressive outing against Mamelodi Sundowns, with Taher Mohamed and Mohamed Sherif up top and Ahmed Kendouci given a first start in the tournament.

The Cairo Red Devils needed just a minute to go ahead as the striking duo combined for the breakthrough where Mohamed set-up Sherif to find the net in pure style.

Having threatened a win against Sundowns last time out, Ahly had to settle for a creditable but entertaining 2-2 draw as the DStv Premiership giants rallied back.

On the other hand, Coton failed to boost their chances to make it out of Group B with another defeat on their own turn – this time to Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal Omdurman.

Ahly made a change in the last ten minutes before halftime where Sherif was unable to continue playing and fellow striker Shady Hussein came on to take his place.

The Cameroonian side's quest to a comeback were made more difficult as Ahly doubled their lead five minutes through halftime courtesy of new boy Kendouci.

Coton brought on a trio of substitutions at halftime in the hope of a turnaround in Ramses Nguimzeu, Moshood Kasali as well as Abdouraman Daman Bouba.

Marcel Koller's side didn't lose momentum following the additions from the Cameroonian side, but kept their shape on all fronts and furthermore remained in control.

Ahly claimed a third in added time when substitute Rafaat Abdelkader Bayoumi grabbed a hold of Ali Maaloul's delivery and dispatched home to see off the clash and give Coton a third straight defeat.
