PSG suffer first Ligue 1 defeat

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season after a 3-1 loss away to RC Lens on Sunday evening.

PSG did not have Neymar Junior available due to suspension following the Brazilian's red card against Strasbourg in midweek, while World Cup winner Lionel Messi missed out once again.

Lens shocked the champions on three minutes when Przemyslaw Frankowski volleyed home from inside the area as Gianluigi Donnarumma had palmed Massadio Haidara's square ball in his path.

Although, PSG needed only five minutes to claw themselves back into the contest as Hugo Ekitike got on the end of Nordi Mukiele's snapped pass and finished beyond goalkeeper Brice Samba.

PSG's tails were up right thereafter and Kylian Mbappe very nearly found target from a ball on the cusp of the box, but Samba blocked before Ekitike guided the follow-up into the side-netting.

The host though restored advantage inside the half-hour mark when Lois Openda latched onto Seko Fofana's through ball, beat Marquinhos and slotted past Italian Donnarumma.

Misplaced balls in defence by PSG two minutes into the second allowed the host to bag a third goal as Alexis Claude-Maurice pounced on Openda's back-heel in the box and beat Donnarumma.

PSG urgently looked for a second goal when Achraf Hakimi charged forward and cut in before he curled into the save gloves of Samba.

Two fresh figures on the PSG dugout followed 12 minutes after halftime as Fabian Ruiz dropped out for Vitinha before Pablo Sarabia entered ahead of Danilo Pereira.

There were late openings for both teams, although neither front pair managed to be decisive as Lens held on to claim a famous win over the title holders.
