Portugal booked their spot in the UEFA Nations League final with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Germany on Wednesday night.
Cristiano Ronaldo made his 219th appearance for the Portugal, who also featured Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Dias, Nuno Mendes, Pedro Neto amongst others, while Marc-Andre Ter Stegen returned in goal for the Germans.
The 40-year-old superstar went close after seven as he charged in the box to get a shot in off a cross by Pedro Neto, but Ter Stegen was able to make the save.
Die Mannschaft sprung into life and very nearly had the lead against the run of play through a close-range attempt by Nick Woltemade, but goalkeeper Diogo Costa repelled successfully.
The host continued enjoying the momentum and provided another threat when a header by Waldemar Anton from a corner sailed narrowly of target.
Germany maintained the pressure in the second half and were in the lead three minutes in when highly-rated Florian Wirtz got on the end of Joshua Kimmich’s delivery to head in.
A Selecao introduced a triple substitution soon after, as Nelson Semedo, Francisco Conceicao and Vitinha were thrown onto the field.
The changes proved decisive in the 63rd minute as Conceicao burst clear from the left of the area after receiving a pass from Diaz and curled into the far corner.
Ronaldo got in on the act five minutes later when he ran in the centre of the area and tapped in a cross from Mendes to collect his 137th goal for Portugal.
Germany didn’t lose hope though and nearly got the equaliser in the last eight minutes through substitute Karim Adeyemi, but he hit the upright from a tight angle.
Die Mannschaft were under immense pressure and needed a double save from Ter Stegen to deny Diogo Jota and Conceicao, although the two goals were enough to seal their spot in Sunday's final.
