Serero, an Ajax Cape Town product, made the move to Holland after an expressive season with the Urban Warriors, as they finished second in 2010/11.
The 23-year-old was brought on at the hour mark against the Spanish giants, and earned Ajax a penalty, being brought down by a clumsy challenge from Javier Mascherano.
Victor Valdes, however, was up to Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s challenge and managed to keep out the spot-kick, and Ajax were flattened 4-0, with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick.
Dolly, who scored his first goal of the season against his former side Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, believes that with hard work he too can play in the Champions League one day.
“He really inspired me and he’s one of the guys that I look up to,” Dolly tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“If he can achieve it then I have to work as much as he did, then I can get where he is now.”
No other player from Ajax Cape Town has been able to make the move abroad since Serero, but with age on his side Dolly hopes that come the end of the season he will have done enough to win a contract abroad.
