David Alaba confirms Bayern Munich off-season exit

Bayern Munich superstar David Alaba has confirmed he will leave the European champions at the end of the 2020/21 season.

After completing the historic sextuple with the FIFA Club World Cup triumph under Hansi Flick, Alaba confirms he will not sign a new contract and leave on a free transfer.

Since joining the club from Austria Wien in 2008, the technically gifted midfielder has developed into a world-class performer at left-back and centre-back for the German giants.

I have made the decision to leave FC Bayern at the end of this season and try something new. It obviously wasn't an easy decision - I've been here for 13 years and the club means a lot to me," he said on social media.

"Everyone, absolutely everyone [fought for me to stay]. I'm really thankful for that and that's why it made this such a hard decision. I can call Bayern my family."

The Austria international denied that he's signed a pre-contract or decided his next move with Manchester City and Real Madrid both said to be keen on his services.

Since making his first-team debut in 2010 at the age of 17, Alaba has won 24 major titles, including nine Bundesliga winners medals.
