The Juventus forward celebrated his 35th birthday this week and despite his advancing age, there have been no signs of slowing down his goal-scoring exploits this season.
Ronaldo has scored 19 goals in as many Serie A games this season and he admits he didn't expect to enjoy such a glittering career well into his mid-thirties.
"At 35? I thought I was going to be a fisherman in Madeira," he told Canal11 when asked to reflect on his achievements in the game on his birthday.
"This never came into my mind. I wanted to be a professional football but I didn't think I was going to win everything I've won."
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner went on to heap praise on his current teammates in the Italian top-flight as they remain on course for another domestic title.
"Playing at Juventus gives me the chance to win again. We know that it's difficult and depends on a lot of things but it's possible because we have a good team, you have to go step by step."
