'Bald' Ten Hag slammed for Ronaldo 'mess'

A former FC Barcelona star has slammed "bald" Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for the "mess" he created involving Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Dutch boss has yet again come under fire for his controversial fallout with Ronaldo last year.

The pair worked together for less than six months before their relationship soured, with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner revealing in November 2022 that he had no respect for his then-manager during an interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan.

That claim came after the player had promised to do a tell-all interview as his game time under the coach reduced drastically, despite finishing as the club's top goalscorer in the season prior.

Unsurprisingly, his public comments did not go down well with Ten Hag, and Ronaldo parted ways with the club by mutual consent just weeks later, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Red Devils manager later insisted he did not lose any sleep over the saga, but the rift drew a lot of backlash from former players and pundits alike.

Chile star Arturo Vidal is the latest to weigh in on the matter, and he pulled no punches.

"The worst thing is that they applauded Ten Hag when he took out Cristiano," Vidal said during a recent Twitch stream, according to the Metro.

"No, that coach came in badly. How are you going to get Cristiano Ronaldo out?

"That's how these idiots are, suddenly that's why the coaches arrive and can make a mess. Terrible.

"I don't know how they think, but take Cristiano out? Cristiano was the scorer and they take him out."

Vidal also added that "bald people are very complicated", which has been perceived as a dig at both Ten Hag and Jorge Sampaoli, who was his manager during his spell at Flamengo before his contract with them was cancelled earlier this year.

"I got stuck with a loser coach who did not know how to appreciate his players," the now-Athletico Paranaense midfielder said of Sampaoli following his Flamengo exit in July.
