A top league official has now vowed to do everything in his power to see a certain club beat FC Barcelona to Lionel Messi's signature if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi's future remains a mystery, with the player's contract at PSG expiring at the end of the season and there being several possible next destinations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

Among them are his former club Barcelona and David Beckham co-owned team Inter Miami, while PSG reportedly remain in discussions with the player's camp over a potential renewal.
With Barca currently in a difficult financial situation, the United States outfit is believed to have the necessary resources to fund a deal for the Argentine superstar, and Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber has now admitted that the league itself will do all it can to help get the move over the line.
"I can tell you that we would love him in Major League Soccer," Garber told CBS Sports.
"I think of him as someone who crosses so many barriers that he can be bigger than any athlete of any sport that has ever played here in the United States.
"We will work very hard with Miami, who is the team that is hoping to be able to sign him.
"We have been pretty effective at coming up with clever ways to sign players for our clubs in the right market.
"There are a lot of dynamics that are going on there. He's got a lot of things to think about in terms of where he wants to continue his career…
"It's very real-time and I hope that we're able to get in front of the discussion and hopefully bring something over the finish line."

The Florida-based club could hold a slight advantage over Barca in the race for Messi's services, with LaLiga president Javier Tebas recently admitting it would be very complicated for the Spanish giants to sign the Albiceleste captain as a number of players would need to be sold and their wage bill reduced in a big way, according to RMC Sport.
