PSG's title charge dented by Lorient loss

Paris Saint-Germain endured a frustrating evening in Ligue 1 after suffering a 3-1 loss to Lorient at the Parc des Princes.

Coach Christophe Galtier instigated a single alteration after their win over Angers when Fabian Ruiz was taken out of the line-up and Marco Verratti entered.

PSG made a strong start where Lionel Messi got ahead of a few challengers and combined with Kylian Mbappe to get a shot in from a smart position, but goalkeeper Yvon Mgogo pulled off a save.

The visiting team stunned the title holders after 15 minutes played when Enzo Le Fee worked a yard of space in the box and thumped in a telling delivery to make it 1-0.

It didn't get any better for the big-spending host this after Achraf Hakimi got his marching orders for a lunging challenge on Darlin Yongwa five minutes later.

PSG still found the confidence despite the man short and levelled when Mbappe stole possession off Mvogo on the half-hour mark in rather strange circumstances and bundled in.

Though, the travelling charges were back in the lead five minutes to halftime after Yongwa followed a telling ball into the area and rattled the net.

PSG showed an introduction following the interval as manager Galtier hauled on Ruiz and sacrificed Carlos Soler, whereas the visitors stayed unchanged.

The host threatened a response just over ten minutes played in the second stanza where Sergio Ramos turned a floated delivery from a free-kick by Messi over target.

However, Lorient were desperate to maintain their cushion and after a quiet spell looked for a third through an inviting effort by Bamba Dieng with Gianluigi Donnarumma beaten but he missed.

Dieng made amends with two minutes to play after he spear-headed a counter-attack and pulled level with Donnarumma to slot in and bring the clash to a close.
