Earlier this week, Capello claimed that Ronaldo enjoyed a party lifestyle during his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, and that former Los Blancos striker Ruud van Nistelrooy once even remarked that the Brazil legend smelled of liquor in the dressing room.
Following the Italian's revelation, Van Nistelrooy took to social media to refute the claims made by his former boss and stressed that the environment had always been one of professionalism during his time with the club.
Capello has now sought to clarify his comments and explained that Van Nistelrooy's alleged remark had been said in jest after he had left Real rather than as a complaint against the Brazil legend during their shared time with Los Blancos.
"I'm sure, I'm not telling lies. I understand that he said it as a joke, he [Ronaldo] never smelled of alcohol."
Capello then added special praise for the two-time Ballon d'Or winner, albeit in the form of a veiled compliment.
"Ronaldo had impressive quality, I have not seen another like him," the former England and Russia boss continued.
"It is true that he was very fat, he did not want to train or lose weight. But he is the highest quality player I have trained in my life."
