Barcelona star set to join Messi at Inter Miami?

Inter Miami have now reportedly made an approach to sign a certain FC Barcelona star following their acquisition of Lionel Messi.

Messi will ply his trade in the United States next season after deciding against joining his former side Barca and Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia after his time at Paris Saint-Germain came to an end.

The Argentine's move to Major League Soccer is reported to be worth between $125 million and $150 million (R2.3 billion and R2.8 billion) over two-and-a-half-season.

It is now being reported that he could be joined in the US by a former colleague and friend ahead of the new season.

According to ESPN, Inter Miami have made an approach for defender Jordi Alba, whose exit from the Camp Nou later this month has already been confirmed.

The Florida outfit are assessing their situation as they are only allowed to have three "designated players" – a rule that allows clubs to acquire up to three players whose total compensation and acquisition costs exceed the league's Maximum Salary Budget Charge  with one of those spots being taken by Messi.

It is said the team co-owned by David Beckham will evaluate their possibilities before making a formal offer to the Spain international.

Inter Miami may need to act quickly, though, as Alba is also said to have offers from Saudi Arabia, Italy and Atletico Madrid in his native country that he is considering.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, the experienced left-back opened up about the reasons he decided to part ways with Barca after 11 years at the club.

"We all know the economic needs but that's not about one player. I've always said the problem isn't me, I've always had a clear conscience. I did the right things; I helped the club at every moment. And they have always helped me," he told The Guardian.

"In the end, people have realised. The club and people know what I'm like. When I talk, it's true. I can't control what people say, come out every five or 10 days and say: 'That's false.'

"The manager decided I had to have less protagonism. I think I've been good when I've been given the chance to play. That's what I hold on to. It's not easy to go from 10 years of playing every game to that. I think I've handled it well.

"The club knows the efforts I've made at certain moments or what I am doing by going now. They gave me the chance to stay another year. It would have been very easy to.

"It's my home. But I thought the right thing to do, the just thing, the honest thing, was to step to one side. No one forced me."
