A Chelsea star has told a teammate who plays in the same position at the club that challenging for the starting spot will be a "war".
Right-back Malo Gusto has opened up about the competition between him and his counterpart Reece James for a place in the Blues' strongest XI, insisting that the "best player will play".

Before receiving his marching orders against Aston Villa last month, the Frenchman enjoyed an impressive run in the side after James picked up an injury in their opening 2023/24 Premier League fixture against Liverpool.
Now, with the England international reportedly set for a return to action on 21 October for Chelsea's big derby clash against Arsenal, competition between them is set to intensify.
"We give each other a lot of advice, he tries to help me and I try to help him as best I can," the 20-year-old told RMC Sport.
"On the pitch, it's war, he knows it very well.
"We don't necessarily do each other any favours, and simply the best player will play."
The former Olympique Lyon defender also highlighted Thiago Silva as someone who has inspired him since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
"He's one of the greatest defenders in the world," the skilful right-back added.
"He's always on top and focused on what he's doing.
"Seeing that he's always giving it his all is something that's beautiful and inspires me a lot."
