Champions Play-Off Final match report Brentford v Swansea City

Brentford won promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history with a 2-0 win over Swansea City in the Championship Playoff Final on Saturday afternoon.

Ghanaian Andre Ayew led the line for Swansea alongside Jamal Lowe with veteran Wayne Routledge unavailable while Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo continued up top for Brentford.

Mbeumo made his mark ten minutes in when he ran in behind to get onto a through ball before being hacked down by goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to win a penalty, which Toney converted,

The Bees added a second goal through the counter-attack ten minutes thereafter when a pass across the area from Mads Roerslev allowed Emiliano Marcondes to run in and drill past Woodman.

It was nearly three within a minute through a half-volley from outside the area by Toney, but he unfortunately cracked the underside of the crossbar.

The Swans could've however got a goal back on the brink of halftime through a looping header from Ayew following a corner-kick, but he found the crossbar.

Ayew was in on goal again seconds following the restart when he dived onto a pin-point cross from the right-side only to head across the far corner of the net.

Additional firepower from the bench came midway in the second half, as Conor Hourihane replaced Yan Dhanda and Liam Cullen thrown in for Kyle Naughton.

However, that was overshadowed with the dismissal of Jay Fulton minutes afterwards for a rash challenge on Mathias Jensen.

The Bees looked for more goal, but settled for two in the end to secure promotion to the Premier League after last season's heartbreak.
