Diego Maradona's rare R3.4-million Porsche 911 up for sale

The iconic Porsche 911 which was owned by Argentina legend Diego Maradona and is valued at an estimated R3-million has been put up for auction in Paris.

Maradona passed away last year at the age of 60 after achieving a godlike status in Argentina and Naples for his unforgettable achievements in football.

He single-handedly, for a lack of a better adjective, guided the South American side to the 1986 FIFA World Cup title with his individual brilliance before leading Napoli to their first-ever Serie A title a year later and the 1989 UEFA Cup.

Napoli has yet to win the Italian top-flight since the two he helped them secure during his famed seven-year stint that elevated his status as one of the greatest footballers of all-time.

Legend status - Legendary value

Having suffered a 15-month ban from football after failing a drug test in Naples, his return in 1992 saw him join LaLiga side Sevilla where he bought the silver Porsche that will be auctioned in France.

It holds significance as the vehicle was in his final season in Europe and over the next seven days, it will be available for sale for the first time at the Bonhams event in Paris.

Having used the Carrera 2 'Turbo Look' Cabriolet to and from training during his stint at the Spanish club, Gregory Tuytens, a car specialist at Bonhams revealed why the car is valued between $180,000 and $240,000.

"It was delivered new to 'El Diego', Diego Armando Maradona, and because of this provenance, this car probably could be worth double or three times the value of a standard car," he told Reuters.

Collector's item

Only 1200 of the exact 911 were made between 1991 and 1992, according to Bonhams, with the vehicle able to reach a top speed of 260 kmph - while there's only 120 000 km on the clock as it stands.

"We are delighted to present this quintessential 90s Porsche with its very colourful and unique provenance, which will appeal to many football enthusiast collectors worldwide," Paul Darvill, Auctions Manager at Bonhams said, as per CNN.

Did you know?

Maradona scored 312 goals in 588 club games as a playmaker in his glittering career.

Your thoughts, please?

Judging by the current state of the vehicle, is it worth the estimated value?
