Orlando Pirates news: Jackson Mabokgwane downplays Soweto Derby duck

Mabokgwane is now in his third season at The Buccaneers, having arrived after Mpumalanga Black Aces was relocated and renamed Cape Town City in 2016.

The 30-year-old is vastly experienced, having made his professional debut for Mamelodi Sundowns back in May 2008, before going on to represent Platinum Stars, Bidvest Wits and Aces.

He has since made 28 appearances for Pirates but has yet to feature in a Derby clash with rivals Kaizer Chiefs, missing out on the 3-1 victory in March despite playing 12 consecutive fixtures before the marquee contest.

However, Mabokgwane refuses to read much into his misfortune and is prepared to sacrifice his position once again ahead of this weekend’s clash after playing the last two matches.

“Look, for me, the most important thing is the Pirates badge. It’s not so much important about the individuals going into the match” he said.

“The most important thing is the team and for us to get the result, so of course I’ve played well in the past two games and I’m obviously ready to deliver [on Saturday].

“But the most important thing is the team and not who is in the team.”

With former Amakhosi shot-stopper Brilliant Khuzwayo back in contention and a wealth of experience as Pirates' disposal, it remains a four-horse race for the starting berth in tomorrow's encounter.
