Sekhukhune surpass 50-signing mark in just 18 months since formation

Sekhukhune United's many acquisitions in the 18 months since being founded as a DStv Premiership outfit has surpassed 50 players to incredibly set a new record in domestic football.

On Tuesday, Babina Noko announced the pair of Mzwanele Mahashe and former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu left-back Philani Zulu just weeks after also bringing in Given Mashikinya.

Mahashe and Zulu joined as free agents having not played any football this season while Mashikinya came in after parting ways with Maritzburg United and will only become available for selection in the New Year.

At the beginning of the season Sekhukhune brought in Daniel Cardoso, Tashrique Morris, Ali Badra Sangare, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Sammy Seabi, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Thamsanqa Masiya, Victor Letsoalo, Denwin Farmer, Linda Mntambo, Elias Mokwana, Katlego Mkhabela, Tshepo Mokhabi, Wonderboy Nakhubu, Abednego Mosiatlhaga, Tresor Yamba, Elias Mokwana, and Ntokozo Mtsweni.

They also added Tlotliso Phatsisi who has only been on the bench to date. 

This means 22 players have come in so far this season with just as many players having been offloaded after becoming excess to requirements at the club.

Star midfielder Yusuf Maart was the stand-out departure after being sold to Kaizer Chiefs while Willard Katsande hung his boots.

From the start of their first season in the PSL last year and through that campaign, Sekhukhune also had an influx of new signings who included Katsande, Justice Chabalala, Toaster Nsabata, Charlton Mashumba, Tshediso Patjie, Seun Ledwaba, Vusimuzi Mncube, Ryan de Jongh, Nicholus Lukhubeni, Thabo Rakhale, Roderick Kabwe, Evans Rusike, Nyiko Mobbie, Talent Chawapiwa, Justin Shonga, Edwin Gyimah, Cheslyn Jampies, Pogiso Mahlangu, Tumelo Matona, Rowen Van Vuuren, Kamohelo Sithole, Senzo Nkwanyana, Blessing Sarupinda, Katlego Cwinyane, Luckyboy Mokoena, Seth Parusnath, Sibusiso Hlubi, and Katlego Molaba.

These signings were made after the club had also released a huge number of players following their promotion while several players amongst them Sarupinda, Rakhale, De Jongh, Chawapiwa, Lukhubeni, and Hlubi during the season.

Chabalala, Mashumba, Rusike, Shonga, Jampies, Nkwanyana, Sithole, Matona, Ledwaba, Patjie, and Mokoena make up the list of those signed at the beginning of last season that are also no longer at Sekhukhune proving just how fast the gates rotate at the club.  

Through their time in the PSL, the club has had McDonald Makhubedu, Owen da Gama (co-coaching with Makhubedu), Kaitano Tembo, and now have Brandon Truter.
