Where Are They Now: Peter Gordon

In our latest feature of Where Are They Now, KickOff catches up with former Wits University FC and Witbank Black Aces strongman Peter Gordon about his life after football.

Who am I?

"I first started my professional football career at Witbank Black Aces. I was there for about eight months.

"In 1986, I moved to Wits University FC, and I retired in the 2000/01 season."

My playing days

"Of course I enjoyed them, I enjoyed Wits University they were a good club, and they paid you on time and not the way the other clubs used to do to their players.

"Yes there wasn't much money those days, players played more with hearts compared to what they are doing these days.

"And there were more skilful players in those days compared to what I'm seeing these days. I reckon our generation was way better than the current generation.

"Today when I'm watching on TV, I don't see anybody with those types of skill."

Did you make money from soccer?

"No, I never made money from soccer, I mean I still work even today, I never stopped working.

"Football was always like my second job type of thing. I was earning around about R8000 a month."

Where I'm living?

"I'm now in the Eastern Cape."

Jobs since playing the game?

"I was an electrician, I have always worked as an electrician, and I'm still doing that.

"Ja, that's what I'm still doing since I retired from soccer. Soccer just paid my bond.

"I'm not married but I've been with Karen for 25 years now. And Chelsea is my stepdaughter."

If you could do it again?

"Going back to that time I don't think I'd change anything to be honest because I enjoyed every minute of it.

"But maybe I stayed at Wits University FC for too long. I should have moved to another club after attracting interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns."
