Sensational ex-Downs striker on to a perfect job

Nyasha Mushekwi has masterminded a third promotion job in China with flying colours.

Mushekwi has been with his latest employers – Yunnan Yukun – since February but has needed no settling-in time with his goals and assists carrying the club to within one match of promotion.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker has delivered 28 goal contributions in just as many games.

He has 24 goals plus four assists in getting Yunnan Yukun promoted.

The 37-year-old has done similar successful promotion jobs with Dalian Yifang and Zhejiang Professional in the past.

With both the title won and promotion secured over the weekend, Mushekwi scored twice in the 3-2 defeat to Shijiazhuang Gongfu.

The first was a simple tap-in for the equaliser after the opposition keeper spilled the ball onto the veteran marksman's path.

Mushekwi gracefully accepted the gift for his 23rd league goal of the season.

The second was a show of his class as he latched on to a long ball while on the run and then finished with his second touch.

That became number 24 for the season, putting him seven goals ahead of Colombian striker Juan Diego Alegria with two games to play.

Mushekwi has been on double numbers for 11 of the 14 years that he has played professional football in South Africa, Sweden and China.
