What Bafana Bafana has taught Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane

"You know international football is totally different to club football," Zwane says.

"Club football you have enough time to prepare the team, you can have time to deal with injuries and other things, you deal with 30 or so players.

"In international football you only have a maximum of three sessions and those sessions players are coming in groups."

The Chiefs coach says to be an international coach you have to be intelligent and fast in your planning as you face different challenges in a short space of time.

"You need to be a genius and picking of players should be spot-on so when they come in they should gel quickly, because you don't have enough time," he explains.

"That is an unfortunate part about international football, or national team coaches. Sometimes we tend to blame them and criticise but we don't know what they are going through.

"I'm part of that right now and I've learned a lot, been to Ghana where we had one session then you come back to South Africa in your country. The opposition have already had four sessions."

The national team job carries many demands and pressure because even those who don't follow or know football become experts, and '10111' feels people judge easily without knowing the challenges coaches face at international level.

"It's easy for people to say 'this one is not good enough' but the challenges are huge. Some players come with injuries and some injuries they pick up in the camp," he says.

"We sometimes try to manage overseas-based players to avoid fatigue, so it's not easy. I respect international coaches. They have a very tough job compared to club football."

Zwane did not want to comment on whether the assistant coach job is permanent or not.

"No, I think that one, I cannot talk about it, because those are the things that can only be answered by SAFA. I can't tell you anything. I have to respect them and the team."
