Molefi Ntseki buoyed by busy 2020 for Bafana

The national level of football in the country has not been good for the past ten or so years and according to the senior national team coach Molefi Ntseki, this year will be good for them to build a strong team to fight in big tournaments.

Bafana have already started preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers, which start in March.

"We started after playing our last match against Sudan, because with Bafana Bafana you have to profile players every day, every minute and every game," Ntseki said at Harry Gwala Stadium having attended almost every Maritzburg United game this season.

"If you have an opportunity to come and watch a live match, that will always work for you. If ever you are not able to watch the game live, you have to watch them on television to catch up on most of the games."

With two sets of qualifiers to be played this year, the coach believes a busy year will benefit the team as they will have more games to play, which will allow them to spend more time together rather than playing once every three months.

He is hoping the team will do well in all the matches they play in 2020 building up to the 2021 Nations Cup in Cameroon.

"So I think the work has been going for some time now and we are aware that the fixtures have been changed. Initially we were supposed to play FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March and June but now the Africa Cup of Nations will be played in January," he explained.

"So we have to complete the circle of fixtures now so that by September they know which teams will be going to AFCON.

"But it's not a big change because we were already preparing ourselves to play in the World Cup qualifiers. If you look at the positive side of it, it will definitely help us.

"We are going to play the qualifiers back-to-back, which will help us build the rhythm of the team and momentum going to the AFCON.

"And coming back from the AFCON we will then continue with the World Cup qualifiers, so I see it as something we can benefit out of. It also will be up to us to do well in our qualifications for AFCON."

With so many games, Bafana will need all their players to be fit and ready, and the coach says having fit and healthy players is something that is needed for the national team this year.

"We are hoping we don't get injuries because we will need every player that we have profiled. Playing so many games, it will help with the rhythm of the team having so many fixtures. It will be good for the team."

Bafana Bafana will face Ghana, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia in the World Cup qualifiers after being drawn in Group G.
