Bafana Bafana squad for Namibia, Zambia friendlies in October

Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki has announced his latest squad for their upcoming international friendlies against Nambia and Zambia.

The announcement that was scheduled for last Wednesday had been put on hold due to the South African Football Association (SAFA) seeking clarity form government over the level 1 lockdown restrictions and its effects on international football.

Itumeleng Khune, Eric Mathoho, Brandon Petersen, Thabo Matlaba, Thembinkosi Lorch and George Maluleka are amongst the local-based players who have been snubbed after making the previous selection in March.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg United's Rushine De Reuck and Mamelodi Sundowns utility-man Rivaldo Coetzee have also been overlooked despite their impressive form during the 2019/20 season.

However, there are debut call-ups for 25-year-old Belenenses centre-back Thibang 'Cafu' Phete, who's been thriving in the Portugal top-flight over the past 12 months, and 23-year-old forward Kurt Abrahams of Westerlo in Belgium.

The friendlies against the COSAFA rivals on October 7 and 11 will be used as preparation for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifiers against São Tomé and Príncipe in November.
