Township Rollers' Tshepo 'Skhwama' Matete to face Kaizer Chiefs in Maize Cup

After failing to impress in the Premier Soccer League in 2016/17, the skilful midfielder - who dazzled fans in the townships - is looking to make a name for himself in Botswana.

Skhwama has a chance to reassert his value on familiar ground when Rollers take on the mighty Amakhosi on July 15 at James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney.

“We’ve signed a South African player, Tshepo Matete. I know you guys here call him Skhwama,” Rollers secretary general Khumoyame Masonya tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“He will be playing in the tournament. We’ve signed him for two years. He will assist the team. We believe that he will assist our team.”

Masonya says they monitored Matete for some time before making a move for his services.

“We see a lot of PSL games and we have envied his skills from a long time and when the opportunity came we took it. We know that he was a free agent and we tried our luck and we were lucky.”

Meanwhile, Masonya insists his side are going for gold in the tournament after disappointing in their previous showing in the pre-season spectacle.

“We want to win this tournament. We came here last time and we didn’t do well. We want to come here and prove ourselves. We are the champions in Botswana and we want to be the champions of this cup... the Maize Cup.”
