Pollen Ndlanya has revealed for the first time in his life what made him break Kaizer Chiefs fans' hearts by joining their biggest rivals Orlando Pirates.
On his second return from Turkey, Ndlanya did the unexpected when he chose Bucs over Chiefs, but because it was in the middle of the season he first joined AmaZulu on a three-month contract.

'Trompies' became Usuthu's top goalscorer in the last six games of the 1999/00 season as he scored six goals even though the team ended up being relegated.
"That's when Irvin [Khoza] came to me, and even this side Kaizer [Motaung]... you know it was tough for me to make that decision," Ndlanya admits to snl24.com/kickoff.
"But honestly I wanted to fulfill my dream that I want to break this hoodoo thing, this thing of Chiefs and Pirates. I went to Pirates and I remember the Kaizer Chiefs supporters were not happy at all.

"I remember there were lots of things in the media. I remember doing this interview at Radio Metro, the callers were swearing at me, saying I'm a sellout. You know they had to cut that show short because of this swearing.
"But I had a mandate from Irvin that, 'Look, for seven years we are not winning the league. Please my brother, make sure that we win the league.'
"I was a top goalscorer with 20 goals [editor: it was 16]. I still have the trophy from the Orlando Pirates Awards."

Ndlanya scored 15 league goals in the 2000/01 Castle Premiership season as Pirates lifted the trophy under Gordon Igesund. In two seasons he scored 21 league goals in 35 starts for Bucs.
His 16 goals in all competitions in 2000/01 put him fifth on the scoring chart behind serial netbusters Daniel Mudau, Gilbert Mushangazhike, Siyabonga Nomvethe and Wilfred Mugeyi.
