Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says it's a bad time to play Maritzburg United

Despite a change in coach – Muhsin Ertugral replacing Fadlu Davids last month – Maritzburg are still without a win since September, so they’d need the performance of their lives to get maximum points at Loftus Stadium tonight (19h30).

Sundowns are just looking to get closer to leaders Bidvest Wits, who are currently on 33 points from 17 matches. A victory over the Team of Choice would see the defening Absa Premiership champions move to within five points of the table-toppers.

“It’s not a good time to play against Maritzburg. Why I am saying that is because a team which is down there [in the relegation zone] is dangerous to play. They are playing for their lives, so it won’t be an easy game,” the Zambian international goalkeeper said.

“We just have to concentrate and collect maximum points. We cannot take it for granted and say ‘it’s Maritzburg, they are down there’. They are not playing badly, it’s just that luck is not on their side. We know the dangers Maritzburg pose and we are working on that.

“They have a new technical team and they want to impress the coach. You see what is happening at Man United. Players raise their hands, but we know all those things and we know what to expect.”

Mweene is likely to be in goal again as first choice shot-stopper Denis Onyango works his way back from a knee injury.
