Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango calls on supporters to fill the stadiums

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango has called on the club's supporters to rally behind the team for the upcoming season.

Masandawana has, in recent months, increased their efforts to bring more fans to the stadiums.

This was highlighted towards the end of last season through the rollout of innovations like the Supporters Day celebrations and the opening of some training sessions to the public at the club's Chloorkop training facilities.

The Sundowns squad recently returned to pre-season training following a break after securing their record fifth consecutive Premiership title in May, as well as both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

The squad also welcomed some new faces who joined the team, including former Supersport United man Sipho Mbule and is still expected to welcome back highly-rated Ethiopian attacker Abubeker Nasir Ahmed, who Masandawana signed during the January window.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper believes the added boost will strengthen the Brazilians' dominance of the premiership and improve their bid for the CAF Champions League title.

"We are looking forward to the next season, it's going to be interesting because teams have also beefed up their squads and we all need to give our best and try to win the Champions League because it's overdue now. We believe that we have the ability and the quality to do that," Onyango adds.

The PSL season is set to kick off on 6 August with the MTN8 Wafa Wafa, before the DStv Premiership kicks off on 12 August. The league will take a break from 6 November and return on 7 January 2023 to accomodate the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
