Kwamhlanga Stadium now Solomon Mahlangu Stadium set for R17-million revamp

The once-famous Kwamhlanga Stadium is set to receive a R17-million revamp to bring PSL football back to the region.

The venue now known as Solomon Mahlangu Stadium is situated in KwaNdebele in the province of Mpumalanga and was once used by Witbank Aces during the National Soccer League era.

Although Siyadumuza are currently using the 2010 World Cup venue Mbombela Stadium as their home ground, club president Tim Sukazi has made it clear the 2019 Nedbank Cup winners would love to continue playing their matches in their home base of Kwandebele in the near future.

The Rockets used Kameelrivier Stadium in the GladAfrica Championship last season but had to ditch it for Mbombela when they bought the status of Highlands Park due to the venue not being PSL-compliant.

While both Sukazi and the club's media officer Minenhle Mkhize could not be reached for comment, Thembisile Hani municipality's Simphiwe Mashiyane confirms that Galaxy will be allowed to use the historic venue.

"Yes, it is true, the stadium is in the process of upgrading," Mashiyane tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"The stadium has been in the municipality's Integrated Development Plan (IDP), however, it was reprioritised when the council took a decision to focus on water projects as the municipality was facing water challenges.

"Any team will be allowed to use the stadium. It is a six-month project. The stadium will be open to the public, including TS Galaxy."
