The Naturena outfit are set to go a second consecutive season without winning any trophy, coinciding with Komphela’s appointment as Amakhosi coach.
Maake, though, feels it is the players who should shoulder the responsibility for enduring yet another barren campaign.
“I have seen many coaches come and go at Chiefs,” Maake tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"All I'm saying, Steve [Komphela] is not the problem at Kaizer Chiefs. I give him 99 percent. Our players are the ones who must shoulder the blame. It was not necessary to draw 2-2 with a club like Baroka, the last-minute loss against Cape Town City, and even the draw against SuperSport United. In all these games our players lost focus.
"Every time it gets to 90 minutes as Chiefs fans we start vibrating, we are even developing piles [hemorrhoids] because of ukuminya. Our boys must learn to shut the back door," he jokes.
Maake says releasing Komphela from his contract won't do anything to help as finding a new coach will delay the progress the club has made so far.
"We must give Steve all the support he needs. He is a local coach after all. If we let him go now, next season we will get another coach from Europe who will take time getting used to the players, and time is something that we won't have next season," Maake continues.
The award-winning supporter says him alone in the past two seasons he has achieved lot of trophies than most of the current Amakhosi players.
"In the past two seasons me alone I have won more cups than Chiefs and Pirates combined. In 2015, I won the Minister's Excellent Award, In 2016 I won the Best International Supporter Travelling Award, 2017 I won the Premier Special Award from the Limpopo province premier Stan Mathabatha, in my very own province,” he adds.
“I’m going to the Russia World Cup now, but only if Bafana Bafana qualify. Chiefs players can only tell me about Macufe [Cup], I'm not talking about Macufe here. We are out of the league race, we are fighting for number three. Even if we can win all our remaining games with a 100-0 scoreline each, we will never be champions. These days, bonke aboMavukuvuku [every Tom, Dick and Harry] can fight for the league title, the likes of Pirates are struggling to make it to the top eight, they are basically in the ICU.
“Our players must respect their jobs and protect their talents. They must learn from [Gustavo] Paez, who is always focused and always looking for the ball. Chiefs don't need to sign players but commitment, we’ve still got the likes of Lewis Macha, Buchanan, Moon and Letlotlo, we haven't properly seen those boys, they still need to be given a chance. Our players must just do their jobs.
"Our players no longer respect supporters. Now I have to buy a cake and champagne to celebrate with Wits. When was the last time we celebrated a cup as Chiefs fans? Now I have to celebrate at other people's homes, emzini yabantu?
“Recently, we followed the team all the way to Mpumalanga [province], sitting on top of trees because the stadium was full. We spent the whole game [against Acornbush United] frustrated up until Paez saved us in the dying minutes with his two goals causing their coach to throw insults at everyone at the stadium. He insulted every Chiefs fan at the stadium, even our chairman and our coach were insulted. Hey, that [Acornbush coach] Macdonald {Makhubedu} shocked all of us that day.
"He spent seven minutes insulting everyone at the stadium. Our players don't see what we have to go through just to watch them play. Komphela must stay and our chairman Kaizer Motaung must sit these boys down and teach them the club's legacy. It's not nice being a Chiefs supporter these days, our players are no longer committed. They must learn from Paez. South African players are more concerned with fame than about the club."
