How Njabulo Blom performed on Kaizer Chiefs debut

Kaizer Chiefs full-back Njabulo Blom enjoyed an impressive debut against Golden Arrows and his statistics from Tuesday night have since been revealed.

Blom made his first PSL appearance when he was brought in from Chiefs' Multichoice Diski Challenge team over the weekend, as a replacement for injured Reeve Frosler.

The 19-year-old defender grabbed the spotlight early on as he manned the right flank with poise and efficiency, earning the plaudits of supporters in the stadium as well as on social media, while coach Ernst Middendorp also had his say on the Amajita international.

"I was quite clear-structured about bringing Njabulo Blom on this position – we had a bit of a [discussion] – okay, Rama [Mphahlele] is coming back into it; Reeve, don't forget about his fantastic performances recently; Kgotso Moleko…

"There were all some knocks in training, and not really 100 percent fit and we sat down and said, 'Okay, Njabulo was in Poland with the FIFA U20 World Cup, he played in this position and he did the job over there.'

"But it's not only about experience, like Bernard Parker and Katsande and so on, we're also looking into how far are Njabulo Blom, Happy Mashiane, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – one of the biggest talents I've worked with, believe me – they are all knocking on the door."

Unfortunately for the teenager, he only last 80 minutes before having to be replaced by Lorenzo Gordinho due to muscle cramp.
