Ashley Du Preez was one of the standout players in the DStv Premiership this season where his improved form in front of goal, which included a match-winning brace against Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this month, inspired Stellenbosch FC to a club-record top-five finish in the league standings.
Predominantly operating on the left flank, the 24-year-old speedster netted nine times in 28 league appearances for the Cape Winelands-based outfit while chipping in with a further three assists for the campaign, taking his total combined goal contributions to 12 for the term.
His impressive form for Stellies over the course of the season attracted interest from elsewhere in the division and the club confirmed on Monday that he and teammate Zitha Kwinka had completed a move to Soweto giant Kaizer Chiefs.
The Amakhosi's acquisition of Du Preez comes as the club looks to beef up its attacking options for the 2022/23 campaign, with the likes of Samir Nurkovic, Lazarous Kambole and Leonardo Castro all expected to leave Naturena in the coming weeks.
His figures compare favourably to the club's existing front-men as he scored more goals than any of the club's recognised attackers in the league this season, while only Khama Billiat (seven goals and eight assists) was involved in more combined goal contributions.
Du Preez scored more times than Nurkovic, Kambole, Castro, Dumisani Zuma, Bernard Parker, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Lebogang Manyama combined (7 goals) and his arrival could come as a welcome boost to the club's fortunes in front of goal.
