Highlands Park's Surprise Moriri grateful for Mamelodi Sundowns reception at Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Moriri, who spent over a decade at Sundowns before joining Park last week, came on in the 55th minute of a 5-0 loss to the Brazilians.

"It's an emotional relationship between me and the supporters, it's very emotional," says Moriri. "I know how they feel about me. They know how I feel about them. So it's always a special relationship between myself and the supporters. I spent a long time at Sundowns and it will always be home."

Downs coach Pitso Mosimane left his dugout to shake hands with Moriri before the veteran midfielder came on for Collins Mbesuma.

'Jingles' revealed Moriri used to "run his dressing room" and hopes the former Bafana Bafana star can return to Chloorkop in another capacity in the future.

"I am happy for him to play. Maybe later he will come back and work with us because of the brains, integrity and humility he has, and his contribution to Sundowns is so immense and cannot be overlooked," says Mosimane.

"We can't say now we won the Champions League and we don't look after people like Surprise. Surprise has a future here. He needs to teach the kids the philosophy and the way we play. Surprise used to run my dressing room and I wish him the best."

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Moriri is unsure when he will retire from football, having penned a deal with the Lions of the North that lasts until the end of the season.

"I just have to listen to my legs. If my legs tell me I have to stop, I will stop. If my legs still carry me, I will continue."
