Freddy 'Saddam' Maake assesses current Kaizer Chiefs team

Kaizer Chiefs' prominent supporter Freddy 'Saddam' Maake is not entirely happy with the kind of performances dished out by his favourite club so far.

According to the veteran fan, Amakhosi's perfomances are only at 75 percent at the moment and more hard work is needed for them to reach full capacity.

The Soweto giants are top of the Absa Premiership table with 19 points from eight matches as they embark on the journey to end their four-year trophy drought.

"Er... for me definitely not yet. No not yet. We are playing well but this Chiefs team I'm currently seeing I can only give 75 percent just because it's better than last season," Maake tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I can see they've got commitment and they play as a team. The team as a whole I think they are getting the combinations right but I'm not saying Chiefs are going to win the league, no. I'm saying Chiefs are doing well, they will get something if they keep working like they do.

"This season one or two cups they will get because I can see they've got anger, the motivation is there, that's why the supporters are coming now. So the 25 percent they must do home and away, they must win. We must increase the goals because it's the goals that count at the end of the day.

"You see when we won 1-0 against Baroka, besesiminyile [we were scared] that anything could have happened, did you see what was happening there? Last minute Baroka hit the goalposts twice... we don't want that, they must focus at the back, they must shut the back door until the referee blows the whistle.

"Because at the end of the day even us as supporters when it's injury time we no longer sing 100 percent because we know that anything can happen, especially at FNB. We are not winning so much there but it's our stadium. We must punish teams at FNB because it's our home ground.

"We need goals. We need to celebrate. We can't celebrate and sit down forever. We celebrate and celebrate. You see what's happening to others, they score three goals but they only gain one point. We need full points and enough goals to show that we are on track.

"Focus is very important because towards the end of the game teams do comebacks. We are there to support them and we will support them always. So players, please put in more effort and be focused."

Maake pleaded with the club's football manager not to rush to the transfer market in January as he believes they've got enough firepower.

"I don't want them to sign anyone, you know why? We've got players. There's [Joseph] Molangoane... we've got a big task, we must play Macufe Cup, Shell [Helix Ultra Cup] on the 12th and 13th [October], just imagine we must have two teams. We've got Kabelo Mahlasela, [Siphelele] Ntshangase...

"I'm saying 'Bobsteak, you've done your job'. The coach drives, players bring the results. We do have the players outside [the regular squad]. This year we need one or two cups, but if possible we must take the league. In the last four years Chiefs was an ordinary team, now they must bring back the pride."
