Florent Ibenge ready for long-awaited PSL prospect?

Congolese coach Florent Ibenge's resignation from his job as head coach of AS Vita has triggered widespread speculation stretching all the way from North Africa all the way down to South Africa.

Massively respected on the continent, just like Pitso Mosimane, Ibenge leaves the Congolese heavyweights after nine years during which he also doubled as the national team coach.

"Dear supporters, I am announcing the departure of our coach Jean-Florent Ibenge. On behalf of the AS V. Club, we thank him for the services rendered and we wish him every success," read a statement from Vita president Blestine Kazadi.

The 59-year-old has widespread coaching experience having started out in France before moving to China where he was briefly in charge of Shanghai Shenhua before moving to Vita where he reached the finals of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.

As the national team coach, he won the 2016 CHAN title.

With all the uncertainty around the Orlando Pirates coaching job Ibenge's name has been thrown into the mix lining him up as possibly the second Congolese to take charge at the club after the late Bibey Mutombo.

Ibenge has for long being linked with a move to the PSL but instead remained at Vita.

Recent talk has suggested that he might be moving to Morocco where he has earmarked for several club coaching jobs.

What is without doubt is that Ibenge is familiar with the continent and would walk into any coaching job with ease with the plus being that he is conversant in both English and French.
