Thembinkosi Lorch, Kwame Peprah, Deon Hotto and Kabelo Dlamini were all on target for the rampant Buccaneers while Friday Samu scored the consolation goal for Maritzburg.
Middendorp explained what was their biggest issue, which included a short recovery time after they secured their Premiership status with a narrow win that relegated Baroka over the weekend.
"That was quite entertaining, I'd like to see some offside decisions in particular the third goal they scored, we were just coming into the game in the second-half," Middendorp told SuperSport TV.
"But good, of course to the entertainment element belongs to the linesman, knocks a player down, we have seen a lot but let's take the front to the side.
"For us it was very crucial, this past Saturday we have put a lot of energy, let's take it from their side. Keegan Ritchie Man of the Match, extremely high data from a number of players, Lucky [Baloyi], Keagan [Buchanan], Nico [Nicholus Lukhubeni] and so on.
"They were all not able to do the job today in a way and here one day recovery in between which was originally planned to play on Wednesday for us would have been very crucial.
"I tried to give some other players in the second half the possibility to show up, we came a little better. Basically the biggest challenge we had today was our one against one.
"In a defensive work, heading, duels was definitely by far not good, I will not even say we need space for improvement, that was definitely the main argument why we lost in the end, 4-1 I think it's okay even."
