Dylan Kerr opens up about Black Leopards tattoo

A PSL coach has opened up about how he nearly got Black Leopards' badge tattooed on his body as a keepsake of his work with the club.

Leopards may not be one of the renowned clubs contesting the PSL but it certainly has had some special moments in its history, which dates back 37 years.

In fact, Lidoda Duvha have fluctuated between the Premiership and First Division for several years, but have managed to retain their top-flight status since earning promotion in 2018.

In the club's maiden season back in the big league, Joel Masutha had endured a difficult tenure until Dylan Kerr took over the reins in December 2018.

The English tactician ultimately went on to rescue the club from near-certain relegation with a last-gasp 1-0 victory on the final day of the season – an achievement he nearly got a tattoo for, to add to his portfolio on his legs.

"Keeping Leopards up was brilliant. As you know, I've got tattoos on my legs of the trophies I've won as a player and a coach," Kerr told the SA Football Journalists' Association.

"And I felt, had the tattoo artist in Polokwane not been sick, I would have added a Black Leopards tattoo on because keeping them in the PSL was probably bigger for the club than winning a trophy.

"Unfortunately the tattoo artist was sick the day before I left. I'd arranged it and everything but the tattooist was really sick and I even said I'm not bothered.

"But he said he couldn't do it because, if he made a cough or a sneeze, he could have made a mess of it or a mistake, and I went, 'That's fine.'

"But that's something I'm proud of. I like winning things, I like being the best. I had a great end of season with Leopards. Unfortunately it was my family's decision that I ended up not being able to come back."

He is now in charge of Limpopo rivals Baroka, whom he again has the massive task of having to save from the threat of relegation with just six games left in the 2019/20 campaign, which is expected to resume in the coming weeks.
