DStv Premiership match report Kaizer Chiefs v AmaZulu 03 September 2022

Kaizer Chiefs dropped points for the first time on home soil this season after drawing 0-0 against AmaZulu on Saturday evening at FNB Stadium.

Chiefs added Yusuf Maart back in the starting fold following his return from suspension and had recent signings Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove on the bench.

The Amakhosi worked the first decent chance in the opening stages when George Matlou headed a well-weighted corner from Maart against the side-netting.

Usuthu responded a little later on and watched Thembela Sikhakhane nod Keagan Buchanan's free-kick over before Bonginkosi Ntuli snapped another headed attempt from Riaan Hanamub's ball wide.

Chiefs could've gone ahead from the penalty-spot after Mbongeni Gumede handled in the area at the midway point, but Dillon Solomons slammed the resultant spot-kick wide.

The Amakhosi applied more pressure late on and questioned the Usuthu defence and goalkeeper Veli Mothwa through a flying strike from a tight angle by Khama Billiat.

AmaZulu made a strong start to the second and worked a save off goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune when Augustine Kwem dropped into space from a tight angle and got a shot away.

The Amakhosi quickly regained momentum and played Matlou in-behind from a well-weighted ball on the edge of the area, but the former Swallows FC man overrun the move.

Chiefs looked to the bench at this point and brought on Bimenyimana for his first-team debut, with Ashley Du Preez sacrificed for the Burundian.

It continued to be a nervy affair inside the final period, as a low rasping strike from Kgaogelo Sekgota forced a diving save from Mothwa.

Chiefs continued to look for the winner near the dying minutes, but Usuthu remained tight at the back and settled for a goalless draw.
