Daine Klate to follow Pitso Mosimane footsteps as SuperSport United return looms

Klate, 35, announced his retirement from professional football in July last year as the most decorated footballer in PSL history with 14 career trophies to his name.

Having called time on his career in his hometown Port Elizabeth with Chippa United, he moved swiftly into coaching, starting with his UEFA badges and working with the club's MultiChoice Diski Challenge team.

However, after just six months he departed the Chilli Boys and is now set to return to where it all started 16 years ago, when Mosimane handed Klate his professional debut at SuperSport United.

"Having worked with coach Pitso when he started and watching him kick off his career when I was still very young [inspires me]," he tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"How he equipped himself and how the club [SuperSport United] allowed him to equip himself is obviously something that I recall. For me now, it's just about being there and trying to submit everything I need to."

Having acquired his UEFA B Licence already, the Chippa exit and coronavirus pandemic has now disrupted his journey that could have seen him secure his A Licence by October this year.

However, he confirmed SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews has opened up the door for his education to continue towards senior management.

"You know when I was at Chippa with their Diski team I was able to do it over there but since I'm back in Johannesburg I've tried my best to see how I can do it," Klate explains.

"I approached SuperSport and they're open to it, Stan has been very welcoming. I think I've come a long way.

"The club made me what I am today they played an important role from the beginning of my career obviously achieving all I have it all started from there.

"It was always an aim to go back to the club eventually. I'm not sure how soon that's going to be with everything suspended at right now but basically the door is open for me over there."
