Absa Premiership match report Baroka FC v Kaizer Chiefs 05 September 2020

Chiefs were unchanged from their midweek win over Chippa United in Soweto, while Baroka welcomed back goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze between the sticks.

Chiefs had the chance to go in front in the first five minutes, but Lebogang Manyama was unable to connect with a back-post delivery from the right-hand side.

Chipezeze showed up with a stern save to keep out Samir Nurkovic's close-range strike on 13 minutes, as the Amakhosi continued their strong opening.

The Zimbabwean goalkeeper was at it again just before the waterbreak with a stomping save off Reeve Frosler's thumping drive from afar.

Chiefs threatened again following the last ten minutes of the half as Billiat went close with an acrobatic overhead kick from a looping ball in the area.

Billiat atoned after combining with Nurkovic in the area to slice into the bottom-right corner on 40 minutes from point-blank range.

Chiefs looked for a second straight after halftime, but the home side kept out the visitors with strong defensive displays.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele drew level on 59 minutes when Manuel Kambala leaped for a ball played to the back-post to head past Itumeleng Khune.

Dylan Kerr's edged closer to a second minutes later following a looping free-kick from the far side of the right area, but the effort went wide.

The Amakhosi decided to switch focus to the dugout just before the cooling break, as Dumisani Zuma, Lazarous Kambole and Anthony Akumu entered.

This however did not aid their quest to restore the lead in the final minutes despite the efforts of Nurkovic, as the Amakhosi miss out on the title while Bakgaga survive the chop.
