'We've got another star on the way'

Orlando Pirates' show of grit and courage against CAF Champions League defending champions Al Ahly in Cairo on Saturday evening has received great applause.

The Buccaneers'  2-1 victory at Cairo International Stadium secured them top spot in Group C, meaning they will enjoy the advantage of playing the second leg of the quarterfinal at home.

Innocent Chikoya, who previously excelled with the side, believes head coach Jose Riveiro's achievements should be recognized.

"We don't just talk, we are putting in the work. We've got another star on the way," Chikoya says.

"The boys are playing their usual football and enjoying the space they are in.

"At Pirates, you need to create your own history, and these players are striving to do just that.

"When you have confidence in everything you do, everything falls into place.

"To go to Cairo, you need to be very brave. So, Pirates are in a good space, and the entire structure is strong," he adds.

The left-footer, who played left back for the Soweto giants in his heyday, notes that the current crop is supportive of each other, regardless of who is playing.

"Jose Riveiro is like a father-figure. You always hear great things about him. Someone who tries to understand his players.

"Sometimes, as a player, you end up playing for the coach more than the team.

"It's much easier when you know what the coach expects from you as a player," says Chikoya.
