Make or break: Warning issued to new Pirates coach

A former national captain has delivered an assessment of new Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, commenting on his readiness for what proved to be a volatile seat in the pre-Jose Riveiro era.

Pirates announced on Monday morning that Ouaddou would take charge, replacing Riveiro, who delivered five trophies during his three seasons at the club.

The ex-Marumo Gallants tactician joins with a record of five wins, four draws and three defeats in 12 matches in the PSL.

Like his Spaniard predecessor, the former footballer is also a holder of the UEFA Pro Licence - the highest coaching badge in world football.

Simphiwe Dludlu - a UEFA B and CAF A licensed coach - believes the lanky gaffer has what it takes to lead the Sea Robbers but will have to dig deep.

"You look at what he has done, he has played in France, played in England, and he played in the Morocco national team. But he has a big task, to either make or break his CV in this Orlando Pirates team," Dludlu said on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone.

"At Marumo, he came in there for a couple of months. He came there in March, got a couple of wins. He played five wins, played four draws and had three losses. And he beat Orlando Pirates, and you could see what he was trying to do at Marumo Gallants.

"Now he has got even better players, and he is (a) better equipped set-up. He is where he is not going to be fighting about contracts.

"Let's hope that he really makes it because he has the right experience, but he has to build his CV," added the former Banyana Banyana captain.

The Soweto giants will fly out to Spain to undergo pre-season training with four friendlies lined up.
