In the latest edition of Story Behind My Nickname, KickOff catches up with former Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars player Daniel Tshabalala on the origin behind his nickname 'Sailor'. Who and where did you play? "I went to CAF Champions League quarterfinals twice with my former clubs. "I also won the Vodacom Challenge with Orlando Pirates. There is not that much accolades in terms of winning. "I also helped promote Silver Stars to the PSL." What's your nickname? "Sailor' "Who gave it to you? "This name I was given by a certain man ntate Mosia, I was Msamariya [The Samaritan] before that. "I was Msamariya until Mr. Mosia approached the owner of our club and begged him to change my nickname from Msamariya to Sailor. "You don't find a Sailor only in the ocean man, even on a soccer pitch you do. I was given the name because of my style of play. "Remember a Sailor is a master of navigation in the ocean. And I was the master on the pitch." Did you like it? "I was young so I didn't mind it." Anyone that didn't use it? "Everyone used it, even my family members know me as Sailor. It has stuck with me until today.
"Even my teachers called me Sailor."
"I'd use one of my real names Mopedi, which means twice as nice [laughs]. I love that name."
