Moeneeb: How are you going to ask Rele to play long?

After Orlando Pirates suffered their second defeat in the Betway Premiership against Cape Town City, there are fears they could get predictable, as former goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs weighs in on the matter.

Pirates have not only been approaching games on the continent and domestically with more or less the same line-up but have stuck to the same style of play, which interim coach Muhsin Ertugral suggested in his post-match press conference, after a 1-0 win over Bucs, made it easy to plan against them.

Chasing the game against the Citizens, Jose Riveiro's men remained patient with their combination play, even though they had the likes of Boitumelo Radiopane and Evidence Makgopa, who could help them vary their game with crosses into the box.

Joseph says he understands with skillful players such as Relebohile Mofokeng, it's hard to ask them to play long, but that sometimes it's necessary.

"That is what you would think, it's the normal thing to do, but these boys of ours are so tactically drilled, so tactically disciplined that they don't change the game plan," Josephs said on SoccerBeat YouTube Channel.

"They stick to what they know because that's what get them the (wins). You have to ask for that long ball into the box. But how are you gonna tell Rele to cross the ball when he can say: 'I can take this ball and create a better opportunity'? Because that's what he does.

"(Mohau) Nkota as well, take (a man) on and create a better opportunity. They play to their strengths. Unfortunately sometimes, especially in times like this where we go 1-0 down, they don't change that. I can appreciate that, but at times when you have big boys coming (to the box) and it's not working out, put the ball in the box."

The Soweto giants will switch their attention back to the CAF Champions League, hosting CR Belouizdad in the second-last game of the group phase on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
