Riveiro praises Bucs stars after Nedbank Cup rout

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro outlined the 'many positives' from the side's 6-0 thrashing of Crystal Lake in the Nedbank Cup.

Defending champions Pirates progressed to the round of 16 thanks to a brace by Tapelo Xoki and other goals from Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi, Tshegofatso Mabasa and an own goal from Adam Khumalo.

Riveiro says the most important thing is that they did not provide room for a shock result, something that is synonymous with the tournament.

"Definitely (could have been more goals) but the important thing is we didn't make spaces for surprises, we started very well, we put a clear advantage in the score early in the game," Riveiro said on SuperSport TV.

"And I think it's difficult sometimes to create, to continuously have the initiative (with a big lead), we made a lot of mistakes in the last third but I think overall well deserved victory. We're in the next round, that's what we were looking for today.

"We're breaking three games in a row not getting the victories, three games in a row conceding goals as well, SuperSport, Stellenbosch and Sundowns one week ago, so there's many positives," he said.

"These types of games, it is not even strange to concede one goal because it's normal to lose concentration for the moment. I think even in the moment that we did Sipho was exceptional, so we're happy with the result."

The Spanish coach also gave fourth-tier side Crystal, who were only formed last year, a word of encouragement.

"They are a very young club, the future is for them, they just have to help the coaches do the job, to support them, do what they believe and be patient," Riveiro continued.

"And if they do the things well for sure the results will come, players going to better leagues, so they need to decide what are they working for and put all the interests there."
